Girls Mentoring Program

Winners by Design: Developing Today’s Girls into Tomorrow’s Role Models

WinnderByDesignLogoOur Winners by Design Girls Mentoring Program is a school-based mentoring program that provides a safe environment for elementary and middle school age girls to learn life skills and participate in age-appropriate activities. While the program is designed to help them become positive role models for their peers and the community, it also equips them with the leadership, communication, and decision-making skills that are conducive to happy, healthy lives.

Our Pathway to Success

winners_by_design1One Love – One Community Foundation, Inc. works in partnership with several Palm Beach County schools during the academic year to provide after-school mentoring services on campus. In weekly meetings the program cultivates caring and consistent relationships with the girls, teaching them the importance of leadership, good communication, and the development of practical life skills. We provide a healthy and safe environment for elementary and middle school aged girls to explore and build upon their potential, giving them the encouragement and support they need to set goals and make healthy choices. Winners by Design utilizes a blend of activities to reach the girls and encourage friendship, mutual support, honesty, and respect, in order to develop relationships that foster self-confidence and trust. Our approach is flexible, and designed to be relevant, in order to best serve the immediate needs of the girls. This includes intervention ad education for high risk activities such as drug/alcohol abuse, sexual activity, truancy, criminal behavior, and other serious issues.

Students experience consistent leadership, but also meet with a variety of professional volunteers and non-profit organizations that help to fill the gaps that are not being met through other forms of community outreach. Group discussions may include topics such as bullying, the arts, the importance of developing self-esteem, goal setting, health and personal hygiene, or reading for enjoyment as part of a book club. Popular hands-on activities and demonstrations have included cooking classes, field trips to area attractions, experiencing the arts, and community outings where girls can learn more about how the world around them works.

Why Do We Need A Mentoring Program for Girls?

Girls need positive role models to mentor them through the challenges of adolescence. But many girls lack access to an adult who is able or available to provide the consistent knowledge and support they need in order to develop the good habits that will lead to better grades, healthy friendships, and a reduced risk of sexual activity, drug or alcohol use.

Our Goals

  • To create a safe, non-threatening environment where elementary and middle school age at-risk girls can explore, learn and grow.
  • To provide youth tutorial assistance with English Composition, Grammar, Writing and strengthen their Public Speaking skills.
  • To promote health education and a system that advocates wellness.
  • To introduce girls to positive role models to which they can aspire.
To offer opportunities for youth to experience varied cultures and the significance of historical events.
